The BJ’s One™ Mastercard® is a card for people who already shop at BJ’s Wholesale Club. It pays 3% back in rewards at BJ’s, 1.5% everywhere else and charges $0 a year, with no cap on what you earn.

The catch is the math. It only beats a flat 2% card when more than a third of your card spending is at BJ’s: a member putting $600 a month at BJ’s and $800 elsewhere earns $360 a year, against $336 on a flat 2% card. You also need a BJ’s membership to apply, and BJ’s One+ exists as a higher-paying upgrade. This review is based on Capital One’s published terms, and the figures below were last checked October 19, 2026.

Who This Card Is For

Take three shoppers who each put $1,400 a month on one card, compared with a flat 2% card that earns $336 a year on that spending.

  • Light BJ’s shopper ($400 at BJ’s, $1,000 elsewhere): $400 × 3% × 12 = $144, plus $1,000 × 1.5% × 12 = $180, for $324 a year. That is $12 less than the flat 2% card.
  • Regular BJ’s shopper ($600 at BJ’s, $800 elsewhere): $216 plus $144 = $360 a year, which is $24 more.
  • Heavy BJ’s shopper ($1,000 a month at BJ’s only): $360 a year, against $240 at 2% flat, which is $120 more.

Gas adds to the case. At 20 gallons a week, the 10¢ per gallon discount at BJ’s Gas saves 1,040 gallons × $0.10 = $104 a year.

You should skip this card if you shop at BJ’s only now and then, because the light profile loses to a flat 2% card. It is also the wrong pick if you want a sign-up bonus or travel perks. Capital One does not publish a minimum credit score; our guide to what is a good credit score covers the typical ranges.

Welcome Offer and Membership: What to Check

Capital One’s page for this card lists no welcome offer, and any offer from BJ’s itself would be set by BJ’s, so check the BJ’s One page when you apply. There is no amount to weigh here, so there is no net-value formula.

The membership matters more. You must be a BJ’s member to apply, and BJ’s pairs the One with Club membership and the One+ with Club+. Check the current Club and Club+ prices on bjs.com. The rewards can pay BJ’s membership fees, so the card partly recovers that cost over time.

Earning Rewards: The Math

The formula is rewards = (rate ÷ 100) × monthly spend × 12. Each reward is worth 1 cent per 1%, so the value per point is 1.0 cent. Here is the table at $500 a month:

Category Rate $500/mo spend Monthly earnings Annual value
BJ’s (in-club, BJs.com, app) 3% $500 $15.00 $180
Everywhere else 1.5% $500 $7.50 $90
BJ’s One+ at BJ’s (for reference) 5% $500 $25.00 $300
Flat 2% card (for reference) 2% $500 $10.00 $120

A flat 2% cash back card on $1,400 a month total spend earns $336 a year. This card earns $324 if $400 of that is at BJ’s and $360 if $600 is, so it comes out ahead only if your spending skews toward BJ’s.

The break-even is one-third. Set 3% × x + 1.5% × (T − x) = 2% × T and you get x = T ÷ 3. Below that share, the 1.5% outside rate drags the total under 2%. Against a 1.5% flat card such as the Capital One Quicksilver, the BJ’s One is never worse and earns 1.5 points more on every BJ’s dollar.

Some purchases earn nothing, including alcohol, tobacco, gift cards, sales tax and shipping. Fuel at BJ’s Gas earns the 10¢ discount rather than rewards.

Redeeming Rewards and the BJ’s One+ Upgrade

BJ’s One Credit Card Rewards need a $10 minimum balance to redeem. They have no cap and no expiry, and you can use them on purchases or on BJ’s membership fees. At 1 cent per reward dollar there are no transfer partners and no tiers, so this is a simple program.

The trap is that the program belongs to BJ’s Wholesale Club, which can change it at any time. Excluded purchases such as gift cards, alcohol, tobacco and sales tax earn nothing.

The upgrade is the BJ’s One+, which pays 5% at BJ’s, 2% elsewhere and 15¢ per gallon, and BJ’s pairs it with Club+ membership. On $1,000 a month at BJ’s, the One pays $360 a year and the One+ pays 5% × $12,000 = $600, which is $240 more. On $800 a month elsewhere, the extra 0.5% adds $48. The upgrade pays only if the extra rewards beat the price gap between Club and Club+. Divide that gap by 0.02 to get the BJ’s spend you need, so each $10 of gap needs $500 of BJ’s spend. Check the gap on bjs.com and plug it in.

Fees and Costs

The card charges $0 a year. A BJ’s membership is a separate requirement, so the real cost of the card is the membership you would pay anyway as a BJ’s shopper.

The purchase APR is 19.99%–28.99% variable, based on creditworthiness, with no intro APR. Carry a balance and the 3% at BJ’s disappears fast: $1,000 carried at 19.99% costs about $200 a year in interest, more than the $180 earned on $500 a month at BJ’s. Our guide to how APR works explains the interest math.

The card carries no foreign transaction fee. A cash advance costs $5 or 5% of the amount, whichever is greater, at a 28.99% cash advance APR. The late payment fee is up to $40. This is not a balance-transfer product: no promotional transfer offer is advertised, and Capital One’s terms list a 3% fee only on balances moved at a promotional APR it may offer, with no fee at the standard Transfer APR, which matches the purchase rate.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • 3% back at BJ’s in-club, on BJs.com and in the BJ’s app, with no cap
  • 1.5% back on everything else, more than most store cards and warehouse-club cards pay
  • No annual fee and no foreign transaction fee
  • 10¢ off per gallon at BJ’s Gas, and rewards never expire
  • Rewards can pay for BJ’s membership fees

Cons

  • Requires a paid BJ’s membership to apply
  • Below a flat 2% card unless more than a third of your card spending is at BJ’s
  • Fuel at BJ’s Gas earns only the 10¢ discount, not rewards, and gift cards, alcohol, tobacco and sales tax earn nothing
  • No sign-up bonus listed by Capital One
  • The rewards program belongs to BJ’s and can change at any time

How It Compares

The closest rivals are the other two warehouse-club cards: the Sam’s Club Mastercard and the Costco Anywhere Visa.

Feature BJ’s One™ Mastercard® Sam’s Club Mastercard Costco Anywhere Visa
Issuer Capital One Synchrony Bank Citi
Annual fee $0 $0 $0
Purchase APR 19.99%–28.99% 20.4%–28.4% 18.99%–26.99%
Rate at the warehouse club 3% 3% for Plus members, 1% for base members 2% at Costco and Costco.com
Rate elsewhere 1.5% 1% 1%
Gas 10¢ off per gallon at BJ’s Gas 5% in Sam’s Cash (first $6,000 a year, then 1%) 5% at Costco gas, 4% on other gas and EV charging (first $7,000 a year combined, then 1%)
Sign-up bonus Not listed by Capital One $30 statement credit None

For a base member, the BJ’s One has the strongest rate at the club itself: 3%, against 1% at Sam’s Club and 2% at Costco. Its 1.5% elsewhere also beats the 1% of both. Costco and Sam’s win on gas and dining, and Sam’s Cash is usable only at Sam’s Club. The better card is the one for the club you already belong to. Nick’s Verdict

Based on Capital One’s published terms, the BJ’s One™ Mastercard® suits a BJ’s member who puts a third or more of their spending through BJ’s. For a $600 a month BJ’s shopper with $800 on other spending, this card returns $360 in year one, $24 more than a flat 2% card. The BJ’s One+ lifts that if the Club+ price gap is small enough.

Occasional BJ’s shoppers should use a flat 2% card instead, such as the Citi Double Cash. The light profile above shows the $12 shortfall. Anyone who wants a sign-up bonus or travel perks should look elsewhere too, and our best store credit cards list shows how the open-loop options stack up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the BJ's One Mastercard worth it?

It is worth it if more than one-third of your card spending is at BJ’s. A member putting $600 a month at BJ’s and $800 elsewhere earns $360 a year, against $336 on a flat 2% card. Below that share, a flat 2% card wins, so see our best cash back credit cards.

What credit score do you need for the BJ's One Mastercard?

Capital One does not publish a minimum credit score for the BJ’s One Mastercard, so no number can be given. Approval depends on your full credit profile. Our guides on what is a good credit score and what credit score you need for a store credit card explain the typical ranges.

BJ's One Mastercard vs BJ's One+ Mastercard: which is better?

The BJ’s One+ pays 5% at BJ’s, 2% elsewhere and 15¢ off per gallon at BJ’s Gas, against 3%, 1.5% and 10¢ on the BJ’s One. BJ’s pairs the One+ with Club+ membership. The upgrade pays only if the extra rewards beat the price gap between Club and Club+: divide the gap by 0.02 to get the BJ’s spend needed, so each $10 of gap needs $500 of BJ’s spend.

BJ's One Mastercard vs Sam's Club Mastercard: which is better?

The BJ’s One pays 3% at BJ’s and 1.5% elsewhere. The Sam’s Club Mastercard pays 1% at Sam’s Club for base members, 5% on gas (first $6,000 a year), 3% on dining and 1% elsewhere. The better card is usually the one tied to the club you already belong to. Read our Sam’s Club Mastercard review and the Sam’s Club vs Costco comparison.

Do BJ's One Mastercard rewards expire?

No. Capital One’s page says rewards are yours for the life of the account, with no cap on earnings. You need a $10 rewards balance to redeem, and you can use rewards on purchases or BJ’s membership fees. The rewards program is run by BJ’s and can change at any time.

Does the BJ's One Mastercard have foreign transaction fees?

No. The BJ’s One Mastercard charges no foreign transaction fee, so you pay 0% on top of the Mastercard exchange rate. To see how these fees work, read what is a foreign transaction fee.

Does the BJ's One Mastercard have an annual fee?

The card itself has a $0 annual fee. You must be a BJ’s member to apply, and the membership has its own price, but the card’s rewards can be used to pay BJ’s membership fees, which recovers part of that cost.
